Outside the Box

Head Spaces

Doreen Dubreuil

Sculpture / Assemblage

This sculpture addresses the climate crisis as a lived reality, depicting a human head wearing a gas mask and sealed inside a clear acrylic box, suggesting adaptation to a polluted world rather than meaningful change. The transparent enclosure symbolizes technological containment and the illusion of control, while the repeated phrase about “thinking outside the box” becomes an ironic refrain in the face of environmental inaction.
